There are legitimate vocational programs and institutions that are not accredited and offer the medical assistant program; but they are licensed by their local Department of Education. These institutions go through a rigorous review process by a commission of state elected officials who verifies that the school meets a standard set of criteria.
Of these schools, many are planning, or are currently in the process of completing theri accreditation status. Here are 5 Important things you need to consider when deciding on a medical assisting program:
If your answers to the above questions are YES, then you are well on your way.
If you answered NO, then CONSUMER BEWARE!
Accreditation is the process by which programs are officially approved and authorized. Finding out whether a school or online course and their programs are properly accredited is an important step in determining whether the education provided will meet all learning goals and is truly worth the time and money. Experts in the field always recommend that medical assistant students only deal with reputable training institutions, and choose from respected programs that are recognized and accredited by the RIGHT organizations.
Furthermore, prospective medical assistant students should seek out schools where caring instructors have"real world" experinece acquired on the job, and are qualified through certification in the field that they teach. In order to train others in the area of clinical, administrative, and pharmacology lab they must first have experienced themselves. Only this way will medical assistant students receive the knowledge and training they need to succeed.
It is highly recommended that those who need financial aid for their career training opt for approved and licensed educational programs that meet the clearly defined and strictly upheld criteria of regional or national accreditors and government agencies.
Military members receive financial benefits under the GI bill and other programs. Their spouses and dependents can receive money for education and training through the Dependents Education Assistance (DEA) program.

In the United States most accreditations are granted by the government approved state agencies, or organizations, and associations that rely on a variety of advisory groups in their continuous effort to improve the safety and quality of education and training provided to the public. In addition, most states have some means of approving or certifying the operation of independent and other nonpublic schools.
By voluntarily conforming to the standards of excellence set by one or several of these agencies or associations, an educational institution becomes eligible for inclusion in their accredited or approved list.
